Alumnus Rhys Mendes Appointed Deputy Governor of BoCUofT Economics alumnus Rhys Mendes has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada. Mendes completed his MA in 2001 and his PhD in 2008.
In the role of Deputy Governor, Mendes will oversee research and act as the central bank's deputy at the G7 and G20 summits.
His thesis was entitled Information, Central Bank Communication, and Aggregate Fluctuations.
Michelle Alexopoulos acted as his supervisor while Angelo Melino and Shouyong Shi formed the rest of his committee.
Mendes is the first person of colour to sit on the BoC's governing council.
