I am a Professor of Economics and a Canada Research Chair in Macroeconomics and Productivity at the University of Toronto; a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in Cambridge MA, USA; and a Research Director of Macroeconomic Development at the Research Institute for Development, Growth, and Economics (RIDGE) in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2019, I received the Bank of Canada Fellowship Award. I currently serve in the Advisory Committee of the Trade, Integration, and Growth Network (TIGN), Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) and as an Editor of the Review of Economic Dynamics . I co-edited a special issue of the Review published in 2013 on Misallocation and Productivity . My research work focuses on macroeconomic development, in particular, the role of the allocation of economic factors such as capital and labor across heterogeneous production units or sectors in accounting for aggregate outcomes.
