Technical information on Postscript and LaserJet-ready files (Martin J. Osborne)

Postscript files
These files, after downloading, can be sent directly to a Postscript printer: at the DOS prompt execute the command
copy filename prn
If you have Ghostscript, you can print Postscript files on a wide variety of non-Postscript printers (including HP LaserJets), and may be able to configure your browser to view them. (On the Ghostscript site, go to the link "Obtaining AFPL Ghostscript ..." and then, if your operating system is Windows, go down to the section "Windows 95, 98, ..." and get the relevant self-extracting file.) Postscript files are plain ASCII files. The files here will print acceptably on A4 paper as well as on 8.5in by 11in paper.
LaserJet-ready files
These files are binary files. After downloading, they can be printed on a LaserJet by issuing, at the DOS prompt, the command
copy /b filename prn
where filename is the name of the file you want to print. The files will print acceptably on A4 paper as well as on 8.5in by 11in paper.
