Answer to Question 2:

What are Marx and Engels' major disagreements with the conclusions of Adam Smith? Explain.

Engels and Marx add to Adam Smith's work the idea that the working class, or proletariat, is exploited by the owners of capital, or bourgeoisie, and will eventually rise up and overthrow tham. Contrary to Smith's advocacy of free-enterprise, they argue that the government should seize control of the capital stock, rendering private ownership of capital illegal. All economic activity should thereafter be conducted by government action, with public enterprise replacing private enterprise.
