Major Gift for Building Project
The Economics renovation and expansion project has received a tremendous boost with a landmark gift from Mr. Ira Gluskin and Mrs. Maxine Granovsky-Gluskin. Their donation in the amount of $3.5 million will enable us to undertake Phase II of the capital project and to name the building The Max Gluskin House.

We are immensely grateful to Mr. Gluskin, a Commerce and Finance graduate, and to Mrs. Granovsky-Gluskin for their generosity and commitment to improving our facilities in support of our teaching and research. This is terrific news because it means that we will be able to complete a project that the late Michael Berkowitz initiated and promoted so tirelessly when he was Department Chair. Phase II, which will cost a total of $7 million, will provide sufficient space for all colleagues and graduate students in one building and substantially enhance the academic experience of all our students. We are also grateful to Dean Pekka Sinervo for his energetic support of the renovation and construction. We are now working with the architects to complete the design so that the two phases can be built together. Watch for news of a celebration of this gift. You can find a description of the project on this page.

Now that work on the entire project is assured, there are opportunities for additional donors to make a real difference and to be remembered with the naming of a room or an element of the building. Our goal is to raise the remaining $3.5 million for Phase II. Friends of the Department who are interested in supporting this transformative project should contact our Chair, Arthur Hosios ahosios@chass.utoronto.ca or Monica Lin mlin@artsci.utoronto.ca of the Office of Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science.
